Our Work

The Gamma Kappa Lambda Educational Foundation, in collaboration with the Gamma Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, INC with educational opportunities being provided to the community. Below are the some of the projects the foundation has supported and managed since our inception

2020

Black Voters Matter

Black Voters Matter increased power in marginalized and predominantly Black communities in Southeastern North Carolina. $5,950 in Grant funds from Black Voters Matter were used to establish a partnership with WMNX 97.3 to produce and run nonpartisan ads that bolstered get out the vote efforts in advance of the 2020 General Election. The GKL Education Foundation was the grant applicant and fiduciary agent.

2022

ICY Academy

Through a $1,000 grant provided by the Foundation, Multiple mentoring activities were  organized by Alpha members of the Gamma Kappa Lambda Chapter. The activities encouraged educational attainment and positive self-awareness for minority male students. Grant funds paid for project supplies, materials, and printing.

2022

party at the polls

Party at the Polls occurred October 29, 2022, in advance of mid-year elections at two locations in Wilmington, NC and Leland, NC. Through a $5,000 grant from When We All Vote, The GKL Education Foundation hosted nonpartisan voting education events at Extravagant Hair Styles and Landon’s Barber Shop. Grant funds paid for advertising, marketing, facility, supplies, equipment, and event management activities. The GKL Education Foundation was the grant applicant and fiduciary agent.

2020-2023

Port City Alpha’s Youth
Intervention Project

The Youth Intervention Project began in 2021 funded through a $5.000 grant from Wilmington-area minority businessowner. Members of Gamma Kappa Lambda Chapter host weekend basketball games at the MLK Recreation Center. The games provide youth mentoring in a positive and supportive environment. The GKL Education Foundation is the fiduciary agent and the program supports the Fraternity's Go To High School, Go To College
